A special dance workshop designed to bring the energy and heartbeat of the Cook Islands. Unlike our regular classes that use playback, this event gives participants, whether for the first time or the first time in a long time, the chance to learn alongside live drumming and live string band.

About the event
Creating a space for our people, and opening the door to anyone willing to learn – welcome to our Cook Islands beginner dance class accompanied by our live drumming and string band.
Step into the vibrant world of Cook Islands dance with our beginner-friendly Ura class, a space where culture meets community. Whether you’re reconnecting with your roots or discovering this beautiful art form for the first time, this class is all about bringing a piece of home to Australia.
Participants will learn the basics through foundational drills accompanied by live drumming, giving a genuine feel for traditional rhythm and movement. They will then learn a short choreography supported by our live drumming and string band, to perform back to each other to showcase their learnings.
